Championing Maharashtra's Rural Development Late Shankarrao Genuji Kolhe Saheb (1929-2022) was a multifaceted personality who left a lasting mark by commencing his career as an agriculturist by training, he began his career in public service as a village headman (sarpanch). He later served multiple terms as a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, advocating for farmers' rights.
Saheb championed policies to improve the lives of rural communities. He famously led a farmers' march to the Reserve Bank of India demanding lower loan interest rates. He also played a key role in establishing educational institutions and cooperative industries, promoting social and economic development in rural areas.
Saheb's legacy extends beyond politics. He was a strong proponent of education and established twelve educational campuses under his institute. His dedication to social upliftment continues to inspire many.
